Parts of the blogosphere have been buzzing about javascript text input autocompletion lately. Here’s a collection of links for my (and everyone’s) reference:

Our First Placed Cache

Saturday, August 21st, 2004

Margie and I placed our first geocache today!

We spent part of the morning collecting all kinds of little goodies to put in the cache, and finding a suitable container.

Initial cache contents: - log book with pen - frosty marble - magic fx pencil - seashells from the Harpeth river in Tennessee - no-aliens patch - NYC postcard - 2 arcade tokens - Canadian quarter - $4 NYC Metrocard - measuring tape keychain - folding NYC subway and museum map - parachute man - tiny deck of cards - mini metal slinky

Once the cache posting has been approved, I’ll throw up a link to the cache’s page here for ya’ll to see. We’re very excited to see if people find it and to see what they think of the spot we chose.

Update: The cache has been approved and is posted live at Geocaching.com! Check out the entry for Muddy Waters. =-D

Garden State

Sunday, August 15th, 2004

We went to see Garden State last night, and I’m really happy that we did; it was easily the best movie I’ve seen in recent memory. Excellent cinematography (long shorts, never rushed), believable acting (Portman and Braff are both very impressive), and a killer soundtrack (what might be a Morning Becomes Ecclectic best-of compilation).

In short: find the time to see this movie; I’d be very surprised if you didn’t love it.

More Finds in the Park

Saturday, August 14th, 2004

After visiting the American Museum of Natural History for their Frogs: A Chorus of Colors exhibit, Margie and I headed into Central Park to try to find more of the caches hidden within.

The force was strong with me today; 4 finds out of 4 attempts! Look for log posts by AvantBard on the cache pages for the details of each of our finds:

We’re surprised that there don’t seem to be any caches in the Northern part of the park, so we’ll probably hide our first cache up there.

Geocaching

Monday, August 9th, 2004

I’ve always wanted a GPS receiver, and I bought one last week. Mostly just because I think they’re cool, and also because I wanted to participate in finding and hiding Geocaches in NYC.

Margie and I found one out of four during our search, but we’ll be back to look for the others for sure!

The one we found is called Imagine and it’s (not surprisingly) located near the John Lennon memorial in Central Park. Check the link and look for my post (by AvantBard) to see my log of the visit.

Can’t wait to go looking for more!

The Cloisters

Monday, August 9th, 2004

Margie and I went to the Cloisters this weekend and I took a few interesting / decent shots.

Lots and lots and lots of awesomeness between the two of them.

Warm Fuzzies

Sunday, August 1st, 2004

I recently had my annual review at work, and I thought I’d share some of the warm fuzzies that people at work had to say about me:

  • Gabe is a fantastic communicator and excels at working with clients on technical issues.
  • Gabe is a simply a great person to work with. He has great ideas and does a good job at carrying them out. There is a constant level of reciprocity in working with him. He is very patient and receptive to other people’s ideas and expertise. He also makes a great effort to make other people’s jobs easier. He definitely deserves a raise.
  • Gabe seems to possess the ideal mix of technical prowess and communication ability.
  • Gabe really does a great job communicating with clients. He comes across as knowledgeable and friendly. He also has an inate curiosity, which is really important for handling tech support. He is extremely reliable.
  • Gabe is a fine asset to Tutor.com and we should communicate in words and actions that we want to keep him long term.
  • Gabe has been a wonderful addition to Tutor.com.
  • It is a delight to work with Gabe. I know my customers are in good hands with Gabe and indeed I get the sense that they feel very connected to Tutor.com because of the solid relationship with Gabe. Further, as a colleague, I know that I can rely on what Gabe tells me to be accurate. He is always a reliable source of information.
  • Gabe has uncommon gifts in a tech type: excellent communication skills and a warm demeanor. Combine that with his inquisitive nature, and technical knowledge, and that’s why our customers love him so much.

    Pretty cool, eh?

I really, really love working at Tutor.com. I have huge amounts of respect for every one of my co-workers, and I feel very lucky to work for a company that I believe in and feel proud to be a part of. Warm fuzzies all around.
