With over 14 inches of snow in Central Park last weekend, we just had to go slide down some hills. Of course, there’s pics.

Hot girls in bikinis + power tools + Stephen Hawking-like voice = 1 badass video!

Oh, and you might learn what a power breaker is, too.

Carl Shurtz Snow

Margaret and I went out to play in the snow today. We brought her new camera along to Carl Shurtz Park and snapped quite a few nice photos (most of them by Margie).

No News Is Some News

Monday, January 17th, 2005

Life’s been slow lately, except for a recent trip to the ER when Margie had food poisoning last week (but she seems to have had a very speedy recovery, all things considered).

While I haven’t been writing every day, I’ve been writing more than I did last year, which was closer to never. I’ve found that if I spend my 30 minute commute home with my Pilot G2 and my Moleskine, I can get a push a scene further along and usually get to an interesting place to stop. It’s kinda like reading an old serialized story, since I’m writing it in these 30 minute bursts, but it’s been fun so far. The writing sucks, but I’m figuring out what the heck this story’s all about anyway. I don’t really want to talk about it until I have something close to a second draft, though, so I’ll say no more for now.

Oh, and I’ve been playing X-Files: Resist or Serve on my PS2, which is very fun once you get used to the camera angles changing on you when you run around the 3D environment. The game really does play out like a series of TV episodes, and there’s parallel story lines with Mulder and Scully so you get to see what happens whenever they split up to investigate different things. Oh, and the music is spot on; very, very atmospheric and creepy.

Pictures of our trip to L.A. for Christmas are now online. You’ll probably enjoy the shots of Twister on New Year’s Eve. Enjoy.

Google SMS

Monday, January 3rd, 2005

So, it’s my first day back from vacation in LA, and I’ve already got a nerd tip to start your year off with a bang: Google SMS.

Google SMS (Short Message Service) enables you to easily get precise answers to specialized queries from your mobile phone or device. Send your query as a text message and get phone book listings, dictionary definitions, product prices and more. Just text. No links. No web pages. Simply the answers you’re looking to find.

There’s lots of query types, from business info to calculations to zip code lookups. So the next time you’re on the go and need the number for that resturant that you’d like to make dinner reservations at, or you’re wondering if $20 is a good price for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, or you don’t know what the word ‘peloria’ means, try Google SMS. Of course, read the instructions and examples so that you know what you’re doing. =-)
