Birthday Bash

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005

Last Sunday I turned 24, and it was definitely the best birthday ever. Margie got me a massage at Bliss, a very fancy spa here in NYC. Normally, I would have had to wait until around April to book a massage, but thanks to a cancelation I was able to book a massage for 10am on my birthday! I left Bliss feeling completely Blissed out. (I know, it sounds so cheesy, but it’s really true. That spa is very appropriately named.)

After Bliss, I came back home and Margie and I went out for our usual Sunday breakfast fare (bagels). Then we jaunted down to Times Square and caught an afternoon showing of Constantine. Overall, it wasn’t a bad film, but it felt like I’d have been a little less confused by some things if only I’d read the comic. Mostly, it was Keanu being Keanu with demons around, which was perfect for a lazy Sunday flick. After Keanu kicked some demon butt, we bounced back home and I played some Prince of Persia on my Playstation before dinner.

But, the best part of my birthday was the sushi. Sushi has become a birthday tradition for me, and Margie booked us reservations at Aki, which was perhaps the best sushi I’ve ever eaten (and the price was very reasonable). Check out the reviews, and know that Margie and I both whole-heartedly agree. Gold flakes in Aki’s special cocktail, the Purple Moon, and monkfish liver with chocolate were two of many happy surprises. With only six tables in the space, I’m glad we had reservations, and I know we’ll definitely go back sometime.

So, let’s recap: Blissful massage Lox on a bagel for breakfast Demon slaying Video games Godlike sushi

Yep: Best. Birthday. Ever.

Upgrading

Thursday, February 17th, 2005

Heya. I’m upgrading w00t (and eventually the Quickies) to WordPress 1.5. Some things might look different, especially in the posting interface. So, all yout w00t authors out there, that’s why. =-)

The Gates

No, we’re not talking about what Bill calls himself at Microsoft, we’re talking about those big orange things in Central Park. Of course, I had to take some pics for myself. Here’s what Margie and I managed to snap with the ‘ol digital.

Misc Updates

  • I’m definitely feeling better. It’s soooo nice to not have any back pain. =-D

  • My new 15″ Powerbook is just damn wonderful: 1gig of ram, 100gig hard drive, 1.6ghz g4 w/ 128meg vram radeon 9700 mobility. The backlit keyboard impresses all.

  • I’ve enabled a new WordPress plugin, wp-hashcash, to try and combat comment spam. They say it works, so we’ll see…

  • It has been a very tolerable Winter in NYC so far. Here’s hoping it stays that way so that I don’t freeze my balls off again.

Sick

Friday, February 11th, 2005

So, I’ve got the worst stomach bug of my life. Broken stomach going on three days now, and fucking terrible back aches. Apparently, one of my co-workers says she had the same thing last week (but she’s in Oregon, so I know I didn’t get it from her). On the bright side, she says it lasted exactly three days for her. So, here’s hoping that by tomorrow I’ll be back to normal.

Oh yeah, and my new 15″ Powerbook arrived. More on that when I have the energy to take pics and give it a decent writeup.
